Leaving the Witr During Taraweeh

Question:

Should I complete the rakah of witr with the Imam during the taraweeh prayer if I want to pray later at night or should I leave before the witr?

Answer:

It is noticed that many people leave the mosque when the imam finishes the taraweeh prayer and before offering the witr in order to pray more or later at home. As it is known that witr should be the last prayer of the day, they do not want to pray witr with the imam mosque, but they want to pray more at home. 

But by this practice, a Muslim is missing out a great reward of spending the whole night in prayer, as it was narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever prays Qiyam with the Imam until he finishes, Allah will record for him the Qiyam of a (whole) night.” (An-Nasa’i)
