Salaam.

Thank you very much for your question. It is our pleasure to answer it.

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

It is established in the Quran and Sunnah that the Friday prayer is obligatory upon every adult sane Muslim. Allah Almighty says, "O you who have believed, when the call to prayer is made for Jumu'ah [Friday prayer], then proceed to the remembrance of God and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew". (Jumu`ah 62: 9)

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cautioned against neglecting the Friday prayer (without a valid excuse) stating that Allah Almighty will seal the heart of whoever neglects to observe the Friday prayer three times in a row. This demonstrates the obligatory nature of the Friday prayer.

Dear questioner, if the nearest Masjid (mosque) to your work is too far for you to perform Jumu`ah Prayer with Muslims, it is permissible for you to perform the regular Zhuhr Prayer at your workplace. However, if there is no harm in going to the mosque, no matter how far it is –then attending the Friday prayer with the Muslims brings many benefits to the person and has a great reward.

We believe, however, that you should look for an Islamic environment where you can perform your Islamic duties in the best way, and the land of the non-Muslim is definitely not that environment.

And Allah knows best.
